Cocktail Saturday: Mojito's Cantina Grill (Ridgeland, Mississippi)

Wife E and I venture out once a month to a spot to try their signature cocktails. We will order a drink or two and give our opinions on if it's worth recommending (photos below).

It's easy to get a vodka/cranberry or rum/Coke just about anywhere, but where are the best places to go to get drinks that can't be offered anywhere else because they are exclusive to that restaurant? That's what we aim to find out!

Mojito's Cantina Grill is a fairly-new restaurant in the booming Renaissance area of East Ridgeland.   It's a nice area with stylish homes, useful services and convenient restaurants. The area is well-kept and very open.  You can see the various businesses that line the area as you pull into the parking lot at Mojitos.

Once you enter the building you'll approach a counter with people ready to assist you.  You can veer to the right to find the bar area or allow them to seat you in any of their other spots.  Outdoor seating is available, but with it being summertime in Mississippi, the heat nullified that option for us.

This is a good date spot as there is mood lighting and secluded booths to give you the allusion of privacy.  You'll quickly be approached by someone to give you tortilla chips for your table which is customary for almost all of the Mexican-styled restuarants I've visited.

After our server greeted us, we ordered our drinks.  Wife E decided upon the Mexican Mule.  It's made with Maestro Dobel tequila, which was new to me, ginger beer with a splash of lime juice and a hint of mint.  The cost of this drink is $11.  She described it as refreshing, but it did have a little bite from the ginger flavor.  A good summer drink that one would enjoy poolside on a lazy Saturday evening.  Excuse the lackluster quality in the photo below, but the mood lighting lended to the colors that you see.

As much as I wanted to try something different, I just can't seem to stay away from Old Fashioneds.  I promise not to get one the next spot we decide to visit.

Their version is simply called "Smoked Old Fashion".  This $13 drink arrived in a glass with a lid on top to keep the flavor intact.  Removing the top will immediately reveal the smoky aroma of Makers Mark.  Let me forewarn you: this is an ADULT BEVERAGE!  Be sure to have a designated driver if you plan on knocking back more than one of these.  This drink is stronger than Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

The orange bitters, sugar and splash of water does give the drink a nice taste, but this Smoked Old Fashion is what I'd describe as "the perfect drink after a long work week".  You'll recognize that as soon as you take off the lid and inhale the puffs of smoke that gently float out of the glass.

Both of our drinks were pretty stout, so we didn't order a second round as we did at Eudora's in the last review we did.  But I do see a return here to try a couple of other drinks that looked interesting.  Maybe in the Fall when the weather is slightly cooler and outdoor seating can be an option.

Here's how we rated Mojito's:

Atmosphere, 8 - Not a bad date spot.  Mood lighting, areas of privacy along with pretty good service makes it worthwhile for a visit.  The place is very clean and it's easy to get comfortable there.

Taste, 8 - The drinks were good, but be ready for the kick of alcohol!  I don't know if they pour consistently there or not, but you'll definitely get your money's worth of alcohol here if it's always like that.

Price, 8 - I'm not aware if they have a happy hour or what it may include if they do.  However, the prices are standard for what you pay for signature drinks, if not a bit cheaper. And as strong as the drinks are, you won't have to spend much in order to feel the vibe a bit.

Presentation, 9 - I loved the presentation of my smoky drink.  It felt as if I was opening a gift when I popped off the lid and viewed the vapors of the libation rise out of the glass.  The Mexican Mule look was standard, but the copper cup was definitely extra-cold!

Variety, 10 - They have quite a few drinks on the menu here!  The Big Lebowski (coffee liquer/vodka), mimosas, Lavender Elderflower (St. Germaine/creme de violette) and numerous margarita choices.  There are at least 9 or 10 different drinks available for you to try.

You can't go wrong with drinks from this spot located in the Renaissance in Ridgeland.
